Alexander Baker, Associate Curator, Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia since Spring 1997, has curated exhibitions including "Sticker Shock: Artists’ Stickers" (January 1999), "Biographies: Philadelphia Narratives," (March 1999), "Terry Adkins: Relay Hymn" (September 1999), and a forthcoming exhibit entitled "Indelible Market: Barry McGee, Stephen Powers, Todd James" (May 2000). This later exhibit is one component of a larger, collaborative project entitled "Wall Power," which explores the social, political, and artistic impact of mural-based art in Philadelphia. He is currently a doctoral candidate in the Visual Anthropology Program, Temple University. His research has focused on the exhibition of art and objects in museum contexts, with an emphasis on contemporary artists’ use of the museum as subject in their work. Recent lectures include "Killing Publics: Public Space and Art in the Private City" (January 1997), and "Public Art in Critical Perspective" (December 1998).
