Coltrane, Grubbs, Jones, Garrison, Easter 1958

This tribute to John Coltrane has been scheduled in conjunction with the Coltrane exhibition, November 15, 2003-January 15, 2004.

Louis Belogenis (tenor, soprano saxophone) has recorded extensively with drummer Rashied Ali including Prima Materia's "Peace of Earth: The Music of John Coltrane" and the duet session "Rings of Saturn" and is a member of experimental rock band God is My Co-Pilot. His discipleship to John Coltrane and Alber Ayler continues to prevail in performances, most recently with Sunny Murray, William Parker, and Mr. Bungle's Trevor Dunn.

Adam Lane (bass) studied composition under Wadada Leo Smith and Anthony Braxton. He has recorded with Tom Waits and continues to collaborate with John Coltrane alumnus John Tchicai ("Ascension") including the 2002 duet recording "DOS."

Philadelphia native Carl Grubbs (alto, soprano saxophone) was a student of and collaborator with John Coltrane, who was married to his cousin, Naima. He was a member of the Julius Hemphill Saxophone Sextet and has recently recorded "Stepping Around the Giant" (CIMP Records) featuring Odean Pope and Newman Baker.
