Please join us on Wednesday, April 28, 2004 from 8-10pm at Slought Foundation for an evening of original music with live-mixed video by Dziga Vertov Performance Group (DVPG) with Scott Fields (guitar, composer), Ryan Smith, (laptop computer, composer) and Douglas Rosenberg (video). DVPG takes its name from the Russian filmmaker of the early 1900's. This work combines electronic and processed original compositions of Fields and Smith with Rosenberg's video imagery.
Scott Fields (guitar, composer) began his career as an active member of the 1960s Chicago free-jazz scene. He has recorded with Joseph Jarman, Marilyn Crispell, Rob Mazurek and Hamid Drake, among others. His recent Delmark CD "Mamet" featuring Michael Formanek received a four-star review in DownBeat and was selected as "the best album of 2002" by Jazziz magazine.
Ryan Smith (laptop computer, composer) is best known for his contributions as a live electronicist for groups such as AdaPT and the Madison Contact Improv Group. He regularly performs with fellow electronicist Jeff Snyder, with whom he co-composed remixes for hip-hop pioneers Public Enemy.
Douglas Rosenberg (live video) is the recipient of the Phelan Art Award in Video. He has collaborated with choreographers Molissa Fenley, Sean Curran, Joe Goode and Li Chiao-Ping. Recent honors include, fellowships from the Project on Death in America, funded by the Soros Foundation, the
Wisconsin Arts Board (Fellowship in Performance), Isadora Duncan
Dance Award (IZZIE), Bay Area Dance Coalition for his work with Ellen Bromberg on Singing Myself A Lullaby. His work has been funded by the NEA, the Zellerbach Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation. His numerous residencies include: The Institute for Studies in The Arts, and the International Festival of Video Dance in Buenos Aires,
Argentina and recently STARLAB Institute, Brussels and the Video
Danza Mostra, Barcelona. Recent shows include, Video Festival
Riccionne Teatro Televisione, Riccione, Italy, The Contemporary Art
Museum in Buenos Aires, Dance on Camera Festival, NY, Mostra de Vídeo Dansa de Barcelona, Spain, The Video Place, London, Brooklyn Museum of Art, New York and Moving Pictures Festival of Video Dance, Toronto.
