Slought Foundation is composed of people with extensive experience in public culture and education, and our undertakings recognize that research itself can be a form of practice.
Our research initiatives are often undertaken in partnership with affiliated organizations, such as the European Union National Institute of Culture, the Neue Galerie Graz, and the Rosenbach Museum and Library.
They frequently generate publications, public programs, and multimedia resources.
One current initiative is Architecture on Display, which is a cultural history of architecture at the Venice Biennale organized by William Menking and Aaron Levy, who co-curated the United States Pavilion at the 2008 Venice Biennale. The conversations which will be published as part of the Architecture on Display project do not seek to recapitulate the exhibitions themselves but rather explore the questions that these exhibitions raise, with the hope of offering a model for future curatorial endeavors.
Past research projects have included the Vancouver 1963 Poetry Conference, which resulted in the online release of an 50 hour repository of recordings from featuring New American poets such as Denise Levertov, Charles Olson, Allen Ginsberg, Robert Duncan, and others in conversation.
