Since 2002, Slought Foundation has organized a dynamic series of public symposia about contemporary art and life featuring theorists and cultural critics. These events recast the role of the public intellectual while showcasing innovations in interdisciplinary scholarship.
Issues engaged include:
The instrumentalization of the aesthetic, arts education as pseudo-democratization;
The celebration of the free market through rhetorics of revolution and subversion;
The rise of hyper-individualism and anti-intellectualism;
Alternative histories of the avant-gardes.
