This tribute to John Coltrane has been scheduled in conjunction with the Coltrane exhibition, November 15, 2003-January 15, 2004.

Mark Helias (bassist, composer) has worked extensively with Ed Blackwell, Dewey Redman, and Gerry Hemingway. Recordings include Anthony Braxton's "Quintet (Basel) 1977," Don Cherry's "Nu" and Mary Ehrlich's "Sojourn." He currently teaches at The New School and SIM. His trio includes tenor saxophonist Tony Malaby (Paul Motian's EBBB, Charles Mingus Big Band) and drummer Tom Rainey (Fred Hersch, Tim Berne). "Mr. Helias's tightly structured works are launching pads for terrifically energetic sections...which can wander and expand and contract while still showing great discipline." --Ben Ratliff, New York Times (Saturday, February 15, 2003)
