Please join us on Thursday, February 3, 2005 from 8-10pm at Slought Foundation for a live concert with John Hollenbeck's Claudia Quintet.

The Claudia Quintet’s newest release, 'I, Claudia' (Cuneiform Records) demonstrates that "innovative jazz does not have to be harsh, angry, loud, shrill or grating; it can be delicate, witty, ethereal and radiantly lyric” [Chicago Tribune]. Their music is highly seductive, ripe with compelling, propulsive grooves, dynamic sensitivity and telepathic improvisation. Aside from the Claudia Quintet, leader/composer/drummer John Hollenbeck is best known for his work with Theo Bleckmann, Fred Hersch, and Meredith Monk. He is joined by some of the finest downtown players including bassist Drew Gress (Fred Hersch, Tim Berne, Uri Caine), clarinetist Chris Speed (Pachora, Yeah No, AlasNoAxis), accordion player Ted Reichman (Marc Ribot, Sue Garner, Anthony Braxton) and vibraphonist Matt Moran (Joe Maneri, Butch Morris).

“It’s impossible to classify The Claudia Quintet (postmodern- ethnic ambient- chamber- jazz anyone?) But surprisingly easy to understand its language.” -Nate Chinen, Philadelphia City Paper
