Nicola Gentili

Gentili is the associate director of the Cinema Studies Program and responsible for the Penn-in-Cannes summer program at the University of Pennsylvania. Since January 1994, he has been a Lecturer in Italian and Cinema Studies for the University of Pennsylvania. Arriving to the United States in February 1992, he was appointed adjunct professor in Italian at Temple University and Drexel University.

He has worked as as a film critic for several Italian Cinema publications and is an active contributor to the Philadelphia film community, having co-organized the Philadelphia Film Festival and the New Authors of Italian Cinema Film Festival in recent years. Over the years, he has organized numerous public programs with Slought, including Ecstatic Truth (2007) with Werner Herzog, Tulse Luper in Philadelphia with Peter Greenaway, (2012), and Things that Quicken the Heart: A Chris Marker Symposium (2013) with Agnes Varda.
