David Alesworth is an associate professor at the School of Visual Arts and Design of Beaconhouse National University in Lahore, Pakistan.
Trained originally as a sculptor at the Wimbledon School of Art, Alesworth moved to Pakistan in 1987 to pursue urban practices such as truck decoration, which he also documented in exhibitions and institutions. As an artist, he continues to draw from the surrounding environment of Lahore, often addressing the aesthetic of the urban bazaar, as well as the nation's craft heritage through the use of antique woven rugs in his multimedia work. His practice takes on issues of urban planning, environmental degradation, and militarization, as seen in his 2002 public installation of missile-like sculptures around Lahore.
He has exhibited widely, including a recent showcase at the Berlin Biennale 2014 and "The Divided Self" at Slought (2012). He has served as a juror for the Kara Film Festival and collaborated at Slought on the inter-cultural initiative "In Narrower or Wider Circles" (2011-).
