With prices and rents soaring, and the threat of mass evictions on our doorstep, the pre-pandemic housing crisis has become an emergency. Yet the pandemic has also seen an upsurge of movement organization under the banner of Housing for All. This event will chart the dimensions of the affordable housing crunch, offer a report from the frontlines, discuss the range of solutions, and highlight some local struggles from the housing justice movement. This conversation is part of a larger one around interconnected struggles that should inform strategies and tactics for producing non-market alternatives such as community land trusts, cooperatives, and self-organized social housing. Last but not least, we will address the role of property and police in directing and disciplining the housing field and even parts of the movement.
