Schmidt-Arenales's work engages the construction of narrative, both historical and contemporary, in political life. Schmidt-Arenales received his bachelors from the University of Chicago in 2013, and is currently an MFA candidate in Fine Art at the University of Pennsylvania.
He has previously worked with the Gray Center for Arts and inquiry in Chicago, and participated in the Summer Documentary Lab at UnionDocs in Brooklyn, NY. He is currently working on a documentary film engaging internal archives from educational institutions, investigating the sometimes predatory relationships those institutions have with their surrounding neighborhoods.
As a curatorial and research fellow at Slought, Schmidt-Arenales is building partnerships with filmmakers, production houses, and distributors to bring a range of moving image programming to Slought spanning documentary, journalism and art practices.
